"Pope Francis on the Joy of Love"

Thomas P. Rausch, SJ, and Roberto Dell’Oro, PhD, have tapped an accomplished group of scholars to delve into the rich theological and pastoral dimensions of Pope Francis’ exhortation Amoris Laetitia. Beginning first with a succinct and clear overview of the document itself, the second chapter presents the American cultural context in which marriage exists today. The next chapters turn toward the exploration of both the anthropology implicit within the document and the broader notion of conscience Francis is working out of. The remaining text deals —in various ways— with how the deep theological truths present within the exhortation are applied and lived out at the pastoral level.

The result of these labors is a text that takes the deep theological thought within Francis’ work and re-presents it in an easy-to-understand language, while at the same time contextualizing it within the Catholic tradition and offering practical insights into how these theological realities are carried out in the pastoral realm.
